The Freiburg Group

The Effective Altruism local group Freiburg has always been, first and foremost, a group of friends who enjoy discussing philosophy and science. We have been convinced by the basic tenets of EA, and now we wish to keep educating ourselves on the details, consequences and caveats.

At regular meetings, currently at Freiburger Zentrum des Engagements, we discuss corresponding reading material. In between, we come together just to share dinner or go on a hike. These social events, and the contacts to other community members outside Freiburg, are essential to the group's purpose of staying engaged with the EA movement.

In addition to our regular activities, we sometimes organize events, such as introductory talks, for a more general audience. As a local group, we want to faithfully represent EA, to raise awareness and to reach out to anyone interested, in order to steadily grow the group and the global community as a whole.

All these activities are greatly facilitated by the support we receive from the Centre For Effective Altruism and the German Network Effective Altruism. We currently have the status of a university group and most of us are students. But not all of us — the group is just as open to non-university members!

If you think this could be for you, there is no need to wait for one of our public events. Do not hesitate to get in touch with us! We are happy to answer some more questions first or to just welcome you at our next meeting — it will be accessible regardless of prior exposure to EA.
